Mrs. Tree

Mrs. Tree, a harsh and aged woman, keeps her neighborhood in control from the comfort of a parlor chair. She cannot stand stupidity or lack of decency, even within her family. But to the reader's surprise, the person she most identifies with is the most mischievous little scamp in town, whom she offers candy to tell her about his adventures and to listen to her own.
