This book exploes the adoption and use of firearms and artillery by Sri Lankans, the impact of these weapons on warfare and their incorporation into the military organization in the island. The advent of the Portuguses in the sixteenth century brought the Islanders into contact with musketsand cannon and before long they were also employing and producing them. Firearms became an important part of the arsenals of the island's rulers and they made their mark on the warfare practised by the Sri Lankans.
