Earlier his literary career, Rex Stout wrote many stories that appeared primarily in pulp magazines between 1912 and 1918.
In the Pulps is a compilation of 30 of those stories. Although they are not all mysteries, they all are suspenseful and very enjoyable and they already show the creative mind that devised later so many complex plots as well as Stout’s gift for creating characters with a few quick strokes.
Three stories, originally published in Smith’s Magazine, feature the same character, Mr. Chiddden, who rebels at being forced to work in his demanding sister's rooming house.
