“Mr. Gavin, I— Oh!” Rania, his secretary, came to an awkward halt in the doorway, her eyes wide as she stared across the room and saw the two of them standing so close together. “I'll come back later!” Her cheeks were bright red as she turned away and slammed the door shut behind her.
Her unexpected interruption had the same effect as a cold shower on Gavin, bringing him to his senses. He was about to kiss her. He was about to do much more than just kiss her and that would have been-
Would it have been so terrible?
She kissed him first and it was fine. The world hadn't ended and neither of them dropped dead. She stared at the closed door and then burst out laughing. “Oh no! She's probably going to get all the wrong idea about us now!”
The growl escaped before he could stop it, bubbling up in his chest and spilling out before he knew what was happening.
She startled and stared up at him with wide eyes and it was the most natural thing in the world to dip his head just slightly and bring their mouths together. He sunk into the kiss, head spinning as her lips parted softly beneath his. His hand splayed against the small of her back, pulling her closer and sucking her bottom lip briefly between his own. In the grand scheme of things, it was an easy sort of kiss, no longer or deeper than the one that she had given him earlier.
When he pulled back, however, she was staring at him in a daze, eyes half-clouded and a fresh flush riding high over her cheeks.
“I-" she cleared her throat when her voice came out thready and broken. She smiled weakly. “Too chicken to keep going?” she challenged.
“You're utterly infuriating,” he said, cupping her jaw as he kissed her, lips on her parted mouth as she was no doubt in the middle of coming up with a retort. He licked past the seams of her mouth into her, tasting the sweet caramel candy that she must have been sucking on before coming in here before he realized that it was too much. The intoxicating scent and taste of her was sure to drive him mad.
He broke the kiss only to bury his face in his neck. He pulled in great, greedy lungful of her scent and she giggled. “That tickles,” she said, stumbling back in surprise.
He followed, nosing along the line of her throat as he let his lips, parted and wet, drag across the soft skin there. There were hands carding through his hair, soft and encouraging, and her head dropped back even farther. He let out a helpless groan, closing his teeth lightly, carefully, over the cords of muscle above her shirt.
“Do you have any idea how much easier my life would be if you didn't smell so good?”
“I don't— I don't know, like… thirty percent easier?” Her hands slid down, dipping beneath his jacket to start pushing it off hi shoulders. “Am I in the ballpark?”
