Today Burnett is remembered for her children’s books, but she also wrote a lot of romantic novels for adults, one of which is A Lady of Quality. This novel, first published in 1896, takes place in 1600's England. The story centers around the life of Clorinda, who loses her mother at childbirth, yet turns out to be a headstrong, beautiful woman.
