Sustainability received its official start in 1987 when the international report Our Common Future (known as the “Bruntland Report”) outlined the notion that economic development should occur in such a way that natural resources are carefully used to ensure that our communities have sufficient resources and capital to meet current needs while at the same time protecting the long-term needs of future generations.
