David Walliams

David Walliams (born David Williams) is one of the top-selling children’s authors. Better known as the English comedian, actor, writer, and presenter, who first gained fame with the television show Little Britain, a sketch comedy that he and his frequent collaborator, Matt Lucas, starred in and wrote.

His debut novel for kids, The Boy in the Dress, about a 12-year-old boy who loves football and wearing dresses, was published in 2008. To unanimous critical acclaim, he has since developed a reputation as a successor to Roald Dahl. The book became a number one bestseller in Great Britain and sold over half a million copies.

David Walliams has now written a dozen books for children and six picture books for younger readers. David voices his audiobooks by himself, and some of his best-selling stories have been adapted into television films or become spectacular, e.g., Grandpa’s Great Escape. According to his official web, now his books are in over fifty-five languages, and he sold over fifty million copies worldwide.

Walliams has won numerous literary awards. His books Ratburger (2012), Demon Dentist (2013), and Awful Auntie (2014) have all won the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. The Ice Monster won ‘Children’s Fiction Book of the Year for 2018’ at the British Book Awards.

David was born in Merton, London. He was educated at Collingwood Boys' School in Wallington, and Reigate Grammar School in Surrey, where he was a contemporary short story writer Robert Shearman. He raises money for the charity, Sport Relief, which helps people all over the world.

Fun fact, David changed his name from Williams to Walliams because there was already an actor called David Williams.
