Gemma Correll

Gemma Correll is an English cartoonist, writer, and illustrator. She has written a few books, including — A Pug’s Guide to Etiquette (Dog N Bone 2013) The Feminist Activity Book (Seal Press 2015), and The Worrier’s Guide to Life (Andrews McMeel 2015). She is also famous for her pug cartoons, which are incredibly popular with fans worldwide.

Gemma Correll studied at the Norwich School of Art and Design (now NUCA) in Norwich, UK. She received a bachelor's degree in graphic design with a specialization in illustration.

Gemma said that she was inspired by cartoonists like Gary Larson and Posey Simmonds, as well as the artists from all of the books she has read, such as Terry Deary, who illustrated the Horrible Histories series.

After graduating in 2007, she worked as a teaching assistant during the week and did illustration jobs in the evenings and weekends. Her first job was for Virgin Holidays, illustrating a brochure of vacation packages.

In 2009, she was able to go full-time as an illustrator. At that time, Gemma also started working with her Agency, Anna Goodson Illustration Agency.

Originally from Norwich, Gemma has moved to sunny California with her two pugs and boyfriend to enjoy warmer climes and to continue working as a freelance illustrator.

Her illustration clients include Amazon, Hallmark, The New York Times, Oxford University Press, Knock Knock, Chronicle Books, and Bodyform. And she draws a monthly Skycats cartoon for the Emirates Airlines Open Skies magazine.

Gemma also publishes her Four Eyes cartoon at GoComics.com and The Nib on Medium.com.

Gemma Correll currently resides in Orange, California.
