The Missing and the Dead (2024), Scott's latest novel, is an intricately woven thriller that combines elegant prose with gripping narrative twists. The story begins with the mysterious disappearance of a schoolteacher whose partner, Alice Hauser, has already tarnished the reputation of lead investigator Thomas Maitland with accusations of misconduct.

Battling depression and disgrace, Maitland is drawn into another cataclysmic event that threatens to destroy him further. This taut, character-driven mystery reflects Scott's skilful exploration of human fragility and institutional failure.

Known for her meticulous craft and psychological insight, Scott has reaffirmed her place as a master storyteller with The Missing and the Dead. This novel exemplifies her deep commitment to the crime genre.

E. M. Scott lives in Dorset, where she continues to write and pursue her passion for painting.
