Alexandra Moody is an Australian author of young adult romance novels. She is best known for her Darling Devils series, which includes Rival Darling and Wild Darling (both 2026). Her work focuses on relationships among young people in sporting contexts.
Alexandra Moody was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia. She later spent several years living in Canada and then the United Kingdom. She returned to Australia to be closer to her family.
She completed degrees in Law and Commerce. Although she enjoyed writing during her studies, she did not plan a career in writing. She later said, “I always loved writing at school.”
Moody is married and has three children. She lives in Adelaide with her family and a dog named Coop. She has spoken about balancing writing with family life and daily routines.
She started writing fiction a few years after finishing her studies. The idea for her first novel came to her in a dream about an asteroid strike. “I had a dream that I couldn’t get out of my mind, so I started writing,” Moody said. After completing her first draft, she continued writing regularly.
It was only after finishing that draft that she first saw herself as a writer. However, she only felt like an author after publication, when she had “something tangible to show for it”.
Her interest in young adult fiction shaped her early work. She says that her love of reading as a teenager guided her choice of genre. She aims to use clear descriptions and imagery to help readers visualise the worlds she creates.
Her first books were self-published and gained an online readership. Rival Darling, the first book in the Darling Devils series, began life as a Kindle title. It was later acquired by Electric Monkey, an imprint of HarperCollins, in a major two-book deal.
The Darling Devils series is a young adult romance set in the world of ice hockey. It is described as slow-burning and character-focused. The series has secured multiple foreign rights deals.
The latest book in the series is Wild Darling (2026). It centres on Parker Darling and Mackenzie Foster. The novel explores themes of team pressure, rivalry and trust within the context of a school hockey team. Acquired by HarperCollins in a global deal, it is scheduled for release in the UK in March 2026.
