Dr Vito Hemphill is an American author and practitioner of integrative medicine. He is known for combining chiropractic care with metaphysical psychology. His latest book, Unity of Opposites (2025), offers practical exercises for personal transformation and emotional healing.
Born into a family of medical professionals, Vito Hemphill developed an early interest in health and healing. He studied at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1979. Hemphill then worked on a National Institute of Health study of manic-depressive patients at Western Psychiatric Hospital. In 1984, he graduated as a chiropractor from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon.
Since 1985, Hemphill has practised alternative chiropractic medicine in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Observing patients' physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual patterns, he seeks to identify the deeper causes of imbalance. Hemphill uses applied kinesiology and "clinical intuition" to guide his assessments. "By accessing the higher mental body," he explains, "we can give patients the information they need to heal.
Hemphill is a diplomate of the College of Mind-Body Medicine of the American Association of Integrative Medicine. He has studied and practised various methods, including acupressure, chakra balancing, radionics, rebirthing, Jungian therapy, marriage counselling, intuitive reading, astrology and shamanic work. He also teaches clinical intuition to medical colleagues.
His previous books include Subtle Body Balancing (1994), a clinical manual for professionals, and Four Faces in the Mirror, a self-help book exploring identity and personal growth. He has also produced an instructional DVD and podcast series entitled Tantra From The Inside Out.
Unity of Opposites (2025) presents a process-oriented method for balancing the masculine and feminine within. Hemphill explains how understanding four archetypes — positive and negative forms of both energies — can lead readers to wholeness.
The book includes daily rituals and worksheets designed to increase self-awareness, emotional clarity and relational intimacy. It encourages the creation of a personal manifesto to sustain long-term transformation.
