Natasha Preston

Natasha Preston is an English author of young adult thrillers. She is best known for her novels The Cellar (2014) and The Cabin (2016), both of which became New York Times bestsellers. Both books became New York Times bestsellers.

Natasha Vicki Preston was born on 5 January 1988 in England. She grew up in rural Norfolk. She spent her childhood in small towns and villages. She attended Methwold High School. She achieved average grades at school and later said she had drifted through education.

After leaving school, she worked in administrative and reception roles. At the time, she believed she had limited career options. Writing entered her life unexpectedly in 2010. While browsing an app store, she discovered Wattpad, an online writing platform. She initially joined as a reader. Several months later, she started posting her own stories. She later said that writing provided her with an escape and that Wattpad had given her confidence.

In 2012, she self-published her debut novel, the contemporary romance Silence. She continued to self-publish romance titles alongside her online writing. Broken Silence (2013) later became a Smashwords bestseller. She has also published other romance novels, including Lie to Me (2018). She writes romance under the name Tasha Preston.

Her breakthrough came in 2014. Wattpad partnered with Sourcebooks, which led to a publishing deal. Her psychological thriller, The Cellar (2014), was published by Sourcebooks Fire. The novel became a New York Times bestseller. It later reached number one on the e-seller list. This was followed by Awake (2015) and The Cabin (2016). The Cabin also became a New York Times bestseller.

Preston continued to publish regularly. The Lost (2019) and The Twin (2020) further increased her readership. She later moved to Delacorte Press. The Lake (2021) became a Publishers Weekly children's paperback bestseller. The Fear (2022) also became a New York Times bestseller. Next came The Island (2023) and The Haunting (2023).

Preston published The Dare in 2024. She later signed a deal with Hot Key Books. It included several of her previous titles as well as new releases, such as The Party (2024) and subsequent novels.

Natasha Preston lives in rural Norfolk with her husband, Joseph Green. She is also a mother of three.
